1Most people are unaware of the many health benefits of coffee.  Coffee has had a bad reputation among health professionals because of the caffeine it contains. But more studies are proving that moderate coffee drinking provides many health benefits.

Enjoying a cup of coffee while reading this article? Well, keep on sipping because a new study shows that coffee has health benefits.

In the past, coffee was blamed for causing or exacerbating a variety of ills including high blood pressure and cancer. As it turns out, coffee was unfairly maligned. That’s because individuals who are coffee lovers are more likely to engage in risky behaviors such as drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes in excess and it is these habits which contribute to increased health risk.

One of the reasons for coffee’s health benefits may lie in its high caffeine content. An 8-fl oz cup of drip-brewed coffee contains about 135 mg of caffeine. This compares with just 35 mg for the same serving of green tea or a 12-fl oz serving of Coke.

The evidence is strong that regular coffee consumption reduces the risk of Parkinson’s disease and that benefit is directly related to the caffeine. A number of studies have indicated that people who drink coffee on a regular basis are up to 80% less likely to develop Parkinson’s. Researchers have been trying to determine how caffeine reduces the odds of developing this debilitating ailment of the brain and nervous system. The disease results when levels of the brain chemical dopamine fall, interrupting nerve signals from the brain to muscles. Caffeine increases the expression of dopamine receptors in the brain.

Caffeine may also be responsible for another potential benefit for coffee drinkers – protection against gallstones. After analyzing data from more than 125,000 people for almost 20 years, researchers at Harvard School of Public Health, concluded that both men and women coffee drinkers tended to have less risk of developing gallstones. The evidence was especially notable because the effect was dose dependent. According to nutrition researcher Michael Leitzmann, the risk fell by 13% among those who consumed one cup a day; 21% for people who drank two to three cups; and by 33% for those who drank four or more cups a day.

Using the same data from the Health Professionals Follow-up Study and the Women’s Health Study, researchers at Harvard also calculated that by consuming one to three cups of caffeinated coffee daily, diabetes risk can be reduced by single digits. Even more compelling was that if coffee consumption increased to six or more cups a day, then the risk was reduced by 54% for men and by 30% for women, when compared to non-coffee drinkers.

Researchers at Vanderbilt University ‘s Institute for Coffee Studies believe that it is not the caffeine in coffee which reduces the risk of diabetes. Instead, they believe a group of compounds called quinines increase the capacity of the liver to use glucose and this would account for improved blood sugar control in diabetics. Unlike caffeine, quinines, which are created during the roasting process, may be unique to coffee. Coffee also contains a large amount of chlorogenic acid, tocopherols and magnesium. Each of these components has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism.

Some of the health benefits of coffee have been linked to its high antioxidant content..Chocolate, dried fruits, and dried beans are higher in antioxidants. For this reason, it’s not surprising that Hershey’s recently introduced a line of dark chocolate bars that are positioned as “good for you” because they contain a concentrated form of antioxidant flavanols found in cocoa beans.

Another compound in coffee called trigonelline gives coffee its aroma and bitter taste. But that’s not all. This compound has also shown to have antibacterial and anti-adhesive properties, which help to prevent dental cavities from forming.

While coffee is increasingly being noted for its health benefits, certain individuals should be cautious about their consumption. Pregnant women should carefully monitor caffeine intake, since more than 300 mg a day raises the risk for miscarriage. Women who are nursing should avoid drinking coffee as the caffeine can pass into the mother’s milk. Individuals who have a hard time sleeping are advised not to drink coffee. And, those with irregular heartbeats are warned against drinking caffeinated beverages.

It doesn’t matter what nationality you are, in which country you live, what toothpaste you use in the morning or how high your IQ is.. We all ask the same question all around the world: Why all good things come to an end?
Of course if ever come.

And of course they come! You know how coffee addicted I am. There is no difference if it’s morning or evening I just enjoy the taste of Lavazza coffee! Especially when I can make high quality coffee using my espresso coffee capsules machine. A few minutes and it’s done! But I wanted to write not about coffee making process but about the reason why I asked this worldwide question to my self. On Sunday morning I opened my cupboard where I keep all Lavazza coffee capsules ordered from and like always I wanted to make one of the best and my favorite TIERRA Lavazza BLUE coffee. I was sure one had to be left..But after fifteen minutes I gave up and made a refreshing Lavazza tea “Tisana Mela e Cannella BLUE DI PIÙ” that I bought a month ago as a new Lavazza product but have never tried it before. Excellent!!! The taste of this drink was just what I needed! One more sip! And another!..I finished it all…


I was and I’m still surprised about how my taste and addiction have changed. I still like excellent 100% Arabica product made using the green coffees exclusively from the three small-scale coffee-growing communities in Honduras, Peru and Colombia – TIERRA Lavazza BLUE! But now I started to enjoy delicious, naturally light-coloured herbal tea with a fruity aroma and spicy apple and cinnamon tones – Tisana Mela e Cannella BLUE DI PIÙ.

This happening with my Lavazza coffee and tea capsules is just a simple example of how can everything end and begin again in all spheres of life. And the only answer I came up with is that all good things come to an END because it is time for another good or very good things to BEGIN!

Coffee beans journey from tropical plant to Lavazza coffee capsule

As usually I was making my breakfast coffee using Lavazza Caffe Crema Dolce coffee capsule. I could smell this aroma and fragrant going to the air at the same time my coffee was running from Lavazza capsules machine…And suddenly I came with a question – “How it is possible to get such a good quality coffee from one tiny capsule?”

My curiosity was so big that I started to search for information. And guess what? After several minutes I new the answer and now I want to shear it with you all! I want to take you to an amazing coffee beans trip from tropical plant to Lavazza coffee capsule!

Our journey starts where Coffea Arabica and Coffea Canephora (known as Robusta) grow at altitudes ranging from about 650 to 6,500 feet (200 to 2,000 m). These two tropical plant species produce little green berries that, as they ripen, grow to the size of a cherry that can be bright red or dark yellow. The harvest of the coffee cherries can be done by two methods: picking and stripping.


The next stage is the processing phase, where the coffee beans are separated from the fruit by eliminating the pulp and the skin. Three types of treatments can be used:
Wet processing, which is used for the most highly prized qualities of coffee, yields a product classified as ‘washed’ or ‘mild’ coffee. It is uniform in appearance and has no physical defects.
The dry processing yields what is known as ‘natural’ coffee and it has a rather uneven appearance. Immediately after the harvest, the fruit is spread out in layers and left outdoors for two or three weeks.
Semi-washed coffee is characterized by a much lower water consumption than that obtained using the wet processing method. The pulp is removed from the cherries by a pulping machine that removes the skin (epicure) as well as the pulp, making it possible to “skip” the fermentation phase.

After the elimination process the roasting phase determines the flavor of the beverage in the cup, its body and its acidity level. This is a phase that Lavazza handles with the utmost attention and carries out using the latest technologies. With roasting, the coffee beans undergo a metamorphosis. They change colour, lose weight, grow in volume and gain aroma. High temperatures allow the beans to develop their aromatic qualities.

After going under various roasting cycles, that are specially determined by Lavazza in order to enhance the body and sweetness of all the blends, the beans are grounded and packaged. Capsules are airtight sealed, this way air cannot cause any damages to the coffee blend. Coffee capsules are only opened when brewing coffee. The machine punches holes into aluminum-foiled top, it whooshes hot water through the capsule and your espresso is done.

This is where our journey ends, how single – serving capsules are produced, preserving the unmistakable aroma of a Lavazza espresso.

When we are kids we all dream about what we want to do when being grown ups. To save the world from aliens, sing the most famous pop song for a huge crowd, arrest bad guys, save millions lifes, reach the moon!.. These fantastic plans are in our heads until suddenly we start to think “logically” and realize that it is more easy to make business, work serious and regular jobs.

Maybe this is the reason why I am so proud of these who make something different, crazy, amazing. When I saw the following video on the internet the only thing I could utter was “this man is just amazing”! Sammy Lin is an artistic barista in New York, who serves about 700 lattes, espressos and cappuccino’s a day at Bottega Del Vino on East 59th Street. These aren’t ordinary drinks, for sure no – the former music teacher from China can design art work on your coffee foam such as a snowman, a blooming flower, an intricate leaf, a smiling face, a sleeping cat, or a mischievous monkey. He’s even designed a smiling Mona Lisa on a canvas of coffee foam – now that’s ambitious. I would call him a professional artist in the coffee world!

After watching these pictures designed in coffee cups I felt thirsty. Coffee brake? I went to make a cup of espresso from my favourite Lavazza BLUE Caffe Creama Dolce capsule that I order from and pressed a PLAY button again. Sammy Lin knows how to make people enjoy a cup of coffee, that’s for sure!  And there are many like him – doing things that make us astonished. That’s why we are never bored to live!
